Inside and outside the agenda
Manuel Espada : Off agenda. Madrid: Ed polycarbonate , 2010 (193 pp.)
An index of 11 chapters, 11 subjects: biology, philosophy, physics, mathematics, language, music, history, literature, computer science, chemistry and arts. Each of them has given them a literary subtitles, for example: Philosophy: The fickle nature of the self; Math: Trigonometric Love, Chemistry: The formula of beauty. A symbiosis between the general knowledge of each subject and imaginative vision, literary, entertaining and surprising outcomes. The index was the first thing that aroused my curiosity to see how the author relates titles and subtitles. Usually in the eleven stories are the many changes of mood that the reader feels, from curiosity, to the astonishment, laughter abruptly broken by a bittersweet ending or annoying. Brief details of some accounts:
Biology: Cinefilum amoris.
girl Chanel No. 5 to which the passion for cinema, through a process of natural adaptation to the environment and mimicry, has become chair. Perfect mimicry of the insect camouflaged in the vegetation. I found it very successful the brief appeal to the reader: "I do not think I am or No cinephile disturbed by such a comparison."
Philosophy. "By order of the Mayor, is made known that God is one and trill "/ Dawn is no small feat. The movement, the causes, existence, perfection, the government of things (the five-way) and the myth of the cave, and each of these sections featuring the permanent smile, a false murder, intrigue, tangle and tenderness toward all the characters, which are the inspector Garcia, newsstand fan of Kant, the nihilistic pro, former Marxist and Cartesian Paco convert, Julian the empirical postman.
What is truth?. I enjoyed this chapter as possible.
Physics: The eternidad.Una dusty old clock that will occupy the entire house. The narrative is slow and descriptive, as the inexorable passage of time, a tone of nineteenth-century intrigue. Hourglasses night. A watchmaker and his apprentice, another watch, another apprentice ... Cronos.
Math: Trigonometric Love. Javier "Round" of everyday life is made of shapes: circles, squares, triangles, trapezoids, and for him the way the circle is perfect, your body is a circle, your home, your belongings, your life. So that is an exhibition and finds the love of his life, a fan of the triangle's , transforms him, makes him lose his own self and you
blasting activity.
Music: Sonata greenhouse story divided into four movements with the names of the stations. A tribute to Vivaldi in the words of Frederick, "a post mortem commercial product." Greenhouse plants emit trace staves and fiddle tunes, jazz or notes Charlie Parker, or the poisonous flower of azalea, reminiscent the Sex Pistols. Nina, the violinist, playing with the open balconies, which are turned towards the lilies which sunflowers. A story about botany, music and sex and romantically Heller, the gardener, Frederick, the composer and his wife Nina
History: The nostalgia of the past. The story is set in the drafting of a television channel. "The machines will to power", Kubrick. A brief historical review, 80's and current.
Literature: Realism dirty. The subtitle and makes the mind flying in a first moment to Raymond Carver, and there is obviously playing cards in a English nightclub "Tasca Cathedral, couple with Salinger, Bukowski ... drinking anisette of the monkey, the noise of the slot, the chorizo \u200b\u200bsandwich, the fantasy and Tobias Wolff ... who leave our unpublished author unknown-perhaps-Jacinto Sanchez surprised and amazed.
hope these brief notes have aroused interest in reading this book that in its totality, is a permanent game of creativity, engaging and entertaining.
